Aesthetics

Zellous.org AestheticsAesthetics is generally defined as the study of the nature of beauty, taste and art. Zellous.org considers your sense of aesthetics when designing a site because encoded in this highly personal patterned language is your soul essence. This visual language is used to express qualities in our life – like subconscious instincts, needs, emotions or ideas etc. Since a website should be an honest representation of your particular brand or your self, getting to know your personal aesthetics is an important phase in the design process.

From a strictly computer programming point of view, the purpose of a website is almost entirely about function regardless of any form of aesthetics it uses to carry out its purpose. From the viewers point of view a website initially impresses us aesthetically before we even have a moment to read its content. Therefore having an awarerness of both priorities is important so that getting to that meeting point, the website being viewed, is just right.

You have probably seen extremes of these two elements in cyberspace. There are the (left-hemisphere) data and text-driven, sites that give so much information, and show too little concern for moderation and/or appearance. Then there are the “right-hemisphere” highly stylized “look-and-feel” driven sites that are captivating but require work to navigate or get to the goal. So we follow the revised old adage “form follows function  which now reads “form follows function & function follows form“.

From our perspective the common denominator between these two ends is what we call the “theme” or “brand”. This is where art meets function. We use our intuition, artistic sense, programming and business skills to assure that the images or “Aesthetic” elements on the site merge with the functional side of the site.
